Freshman Retreat- Save the Date

September 17-19, 2010
Pallotti Pride is a long standing tradition. Pride in ourselves, pride in our families, pride in our school and giving our lives for the infinite Glory of God. The Freshmen class will have a retreat experience that will kick off their high school experience. They will learn about the mission of Pallotti High School as defined by our sponsors, the Pallotine Missionary Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate. St. Vincent was an awesome Saint. He is known for his compassion, his commitment to social justice and the “call to the laity.” The call to the laity proposes that each and every one of us is responsible for bringing the love of Christ into this hurting world. The retreat experience will begin with session for parents and their students on Friday evening September 17th and will end on September 19th at noon. Students will go home with their parents on Friday evening and return Saturday morning prepared to stay the night at school. More detailed information will come home when the retreat gets closer. In this day and age with our very complicated lives we know what a challenge it will be for all of our students to make the commitment to the entire weekend. We feel the benefit of having this time together to build unity within the class and learn about the mission of Pallotti will be well worth the time invested. We are notifying you now so each family will be able to block this time out and make no other commitments. For security reasons we are not able to allow students to leave and come back. Each student will need to make a commitment to the entire time. As stated in the handbook, participation in retreats is a requirement for graduation.

Our Freshmen retreat has been a favorite among our Freshmen for years. The experience has always included fun team building activities and fun problem solving games. A few years ago we expanded this retreat day to a weekend to have the opportunity for our Freshmen to hear from our Seniors. It was a tremendous success. Each student will be in a small group with a Senior as a leader and a Pallotti Alumni or Faculty member. The Seniors will talk with the group about peer pressure and being true to what you believe. Later in the day the Senior will invite a friend of the opposite sex (groups will be single sex) to talk with the students about relationships and some important things to know about the dating world. In the evening, the students will be driven to the home of a Pallotti family, where they will have dinner and hear from some Pallotti parents on their view of the high school years and some advise for our Freshmen on how to build trust and confidence to reduce the conflict in the struggle for independence which is the hallmark of the teen age years.

We are excited about his opportunity. There will be detailed information that will come home soon. Please contact Nancy Vawter, our Director of Campus Ministry, is you have questions at x316 or nvawter@pallottihs.org.
