For students seeking scholarships, we encourage registering with the free online scholarship search service FastWeb by the end of the junior year. Generally, there are three different sources for scholarships.
1. Institutional Scholarships: merit scholarships based on the student’s GPA and standardized test scores are offered by many colleges and universities. Information regarding these should be sought when inquiring at a specific college, and because many schools have earlier application deadlines for students applying for these scholarships, this information must be kept track of. Students need to be prepared to apply as early as possible in the fall of their senior year.
2. National Corporate Scholarships: many corporations offer scholarships through an application/essay process. We post whatever information we have regarding these here on our website and we have further details in our counseling offices.
3. Miscellaneous organizations and places of employment: your employer may offer scholarships, or other local civic organizations may have some – all based on a variety of considerations such as ethnic background, student interests, specific needs, etc. Be sure to check our website and in our offices.
