Chorus I  7151
Prerequisite: Audition
Credit: 1.0

Description:  This year-long course is open to all students, including those without musical experience, or who are enrolling in chorus for the first time. Emphasis is placed upon learning the rudiments of music theory, music history, and basic concepts of vocal production. Hand bell performance is used to reinforce students’ understanding of rhythm and music notation.


Chorus II  7251
Prerequisite: Chorus
Credit: 1.0

Description: Advanced chorus builds upon the concepts introduced in Chorus I. Students are given more challenging choral and hand bell music to perform. Students also study specific periods in music history in greater depth. The most advanced students will be given the opportunity to sing in a small ensemble which concentrates on unaccompanied singing.


Chorus III  7351
Prerequisite: Department Approval
Credit: 1.0

Description:  This advanced section of Chorus builds upon the concepts introduced in Chorus II. Students are given more challenging choral and hand bell material to perform. An in-depth study of specific music history is also conducted. The most advanced students will be given the opportunity to sing in a small ensemble with concentrates on unaccompanied singing.


Beginning Band  7160
Prerequisite: None
Credit: 1.0

Description:  This is a year-long course where students will learn to play music with a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. It is open to students with little or no experience with band instruments, and will act as a feeder program for the Concert Band.


Band I   7161
Prerequisite: Audition
Credit: 1.0

Description:  Concert Band is a year long course which will focus on the performance of a wide variety of music written and/or arranged for the wind ensemble (concert band) as well as developing students’ instrumental technique and musicianship to their full potential. The music studied during the first semester will be that to be performed in the Christmas concert, WAMTC Band Festival, and at various sporting events. The music will include sacred and secular holiday music as well as standard and contemporary wind ensemble literature. Music studied during the second semester will be in preparation for the spring concert and spring festival, which will also include a wide variety of music.


Honors Band  7261
Prerequisite: Band
Credit: 1.0

Description:  This year long course will encompass the same components as that of Band I, with additional challenges for the more advanced music student. Additional requirements will include Festival participation outside of Pallotti and added scales and solos.


Introduction to Hand Bells  7352
Prerequisite: None
Credit: .5

Description:  This semester course is designed to introduce students to the art of ringing hand bells and the performance of music written for bells. Rudiments of music theory are presented and reinforced through the rehearsal and performance of specific pieces of hand bell music. A wide variety of music is studied with the goal of increasing the students' understanding and appreciation of music history and music styles. This course can be repeated for credit with the permission of the instructor. No prior musical experience is required.


Fundamentals of Art  7210

Description:
 This semester course is designed to give students general instruction to aesthetics and studio art. Students will explore two dimensional art through drawing and design as well as painting. Three dimensional design will be explored through clay sculpture. Some Art History topics are covered. Students will go on a field trip to an art museum. 


Drawing  7311
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Art &/or Department Approval

Description:
This semester course builds basic drawing skills using a variety of media and techniques including charcoal, pencil, conte, and pen and ink.  Students will study perspective, line, value, and composition.  Course includes demonstrations, class critiques and a field trip. 


Art Studio  7321
Prerequisite: Drawing & Painting/or Department Approval

Description: This semester course involves enhancing skills learned in Fundamentals of Art and applying them to various forms of 2-dimensional mixed media, including collage, painting, and drawing. Students will continue to study composition & design, color theory, and perspective. Course includes demonstrations, class critiques and a field trip.


Sculpture  7420
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Art

Description:  In this semester long course, the student is introduced to carving and modeling, as well as construction and assembly. Students will encounter hands-on experience in different media, including plaster, clay, and wire. Students will learn a short history of sculpture, and will be introduced to contemporary art through possible field trips to art galleries and museums.


Digital Photography  7410
Prerequisites: None

Description:  This semester course is a general introduction to digital photography including portraiture, action, and landscapes.  The course will begin with traditional photographic and art concepts. Students will explore image manipulation using personal computers supported by scanners, photo CDs, and digital cameras. Adobe Photoshop software will be used to simulate darkroom operations as well as manipulations to create their final images. Material requirements include a Digital camera in which F-stop and aperture can be manually changed. There is a $35.00 lab fee for printing consumables.


Painting I  7441
Prerequisite: Drawing

Description: This one semester course will explore techniques of oil, acrylic and watercolor painting.  Emphasis will be placed on value, composition and color theory.  Course includes demonstrations, class critiques, and a field trip. 


Drama  8431
Prerequisite: None
Credit: .5

Description:  This one semester course is designed to help students become aware of the close relationship between the theater and real life. Learning to effectively use the body and mind and voice for theatrical presentations or even to give a book report or speech in class is paramount. Accomplished actors recognize how important it is to make every gesture and mannerism and every word and vocalism clear and interesting and expressive. Students will be introduced to a variety of exercises and activities designed to help with their development of these basic skills. As they become more knowledgeable of these techniques they will gain confidence and discipline and self-awareness in addition to discovering their overall effect on others.
