Description: In this semester course basic health concepts are covered. Topics include the basic human body and it’s regulatory systems. Students will also learn about alcohol and drug awareness, physical fitness, and the principles of nutrition. Discussion of peer relationships and stress will also take place.
Health & PE 10 1210 Prerequisite: 10th Grade Requirement

Description: In this semester course basic health is taught, with training in various sports and other physical activities. A student athlete who is injured and cannot participate for more than one-half of a season, or a student who does not make a team will not receive credit, and must satisfy the PE requirement in another manner. Students must have a physical signed by a family physician before the start of the school year. Required items for class include: school gym shorts, school gym shirt, white socks, and tennis shoes.
Contract PE 1200 Prerequisite: Guidance Approval

Description: This course is an alternative to regular class participation to obtain credit for physical education required for graduation. Students must participate in an activity (e.g. interscholastic sports) previously approved by the administration. A contract is signed by the student that pledges his or her participation in the said program, and is finalized by the signature of the coach or instructor of that program. This is a pass/fail course, and is not included in GPA calculations. Permission and forms must be obtained through the Guidance department; students should see their respective counselor.
Weight Training 1410 Prerequisite: Junior or Senior Status

Description: This semester course is designed for those students serious about being in good physical condition. The class meets in the Pallotti weight facility and focuses on strength training for sports, as well as circuit weight training.
Women's Fitness 1420 Prerequisite: Junior or Senior Status; Females Only

Description: This semester course is designed to promote all aspects of fitness to create a healthy mind and body. The course work centers on cardiovascular, interval, and strength training. It also includes aerobic activity, yoga exercises, and strength and stretching work as done in Pilates. There is also an element of building a positive self-esteem, and discussions are help on the many benefits physical fitness has on the whole person.
Introduction to Sports Medicine 1430 Prerequisite: Junior or Senior Status

Description: This year-long course is designed to give students an overall view of athletic training and sports medicine, including the administrative and professional aspects of the profession. Students will gain a general knowledge of anatomy and physiology, first aid, and athletic injuries and their treatment, care, and rehabilitation. By the end of the course students will have the ability to handle first aid emergencies, provide basic preventative care, and provide further injury care under the guidance of a certified athletic trainer.
